Born, raised, and trained in Canada, I graduated from the University of Toronto School of Medicine in 1990. I completed my internship and residency at the same institution and qualified as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1995. I have studied and worked in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Chile. Through my travels, I have learned there are many ways to approach a problem and the patient usually understands their illness best. By combining the patient's insight with medical guidance, effective treatment plans can be developed.
In 2006, I became a Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and, in 2014, re-certified with the same board, now known as the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine.
My interest in Oriental Medicine was ignited while collaborating in San Diego with Dr. Darcy Yent, naturopath and acupuncturist. Together, we applied our various skills for our patients' benefit. In 2009, with Dr. Yent's encouragement, I certified as a Medical Acupuncturist through the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, under the auspices of Dr. Joseph Helms, considered the "Father of Medical Acupuncture" in the United States. I became a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, then a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture which confers this title to practitioners with increasing experience.
I have since completed a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine, graduating from the Institute of Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Honolulu. In 2015, I fulfilled all the requirements necessary to become a licensed acupuncturist in Hawaii. Subsequently, I qualified as a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine by passing the board exams administered by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. As well as an acupuncture license, I also hold medical licenses in Hawaii, California, and Ontario, Canada.
